History Braulio Luque Yana’s farm covers 12 hectares located on a ridge 1600
meters above sea level. A first generation coffee producer he has two
hectares of pure caturra variety coffee.
“This is the first time I have participated in a
competition,” he said. “We have a new market of specialty coffees. I am
going to work to now to improve my production and establish an
additional two hectares.”
Braulio’s production is 100% organic and is certified
by BIOLATINA. His farm also includes citrus trees and he is planting
more shade trees.
Quality Practices The ripe coffee cherry harvest is done manually, process in which
the whole family intervenes during the tour months that the harvest
takes, from May to September; the coffee cherry is immersed in water in
order to do the firs selection of futile coffee grains. The pulping is
done in a wooden pulper immediately alter the daily coffee collection is
finished. The coffee is fermented during a period of 15 hours, time in
which the grain mucilage is separated. This coffee is manually washed
with clean water coming from natural slopes that the mountains of the
Bolivian Yungas offer. The coffee drying is done on tables totally
exposed to the sun.
