Café Óscar Café Óscar

Cima del Jaguar B

History
Eulogio Luque Yana has coffee in his blood. He tells us that the first memories from his childhood are of coffee farms, and that even as a small boy, he helped his parents working in coffee. That’s why he is so happy to be working in his own farm now. It’s his only crop, and it gives him a sense of security. He tells us, “for me, it is like a bank. I have an annual estimate that I make every year as a producer… It’s not easy work. It’s a big sacrifice, but that’s the price of producing a high quality coffee.” His greatest desire is that his son, Diego Armando, who is five, follows in his footsteps and is an exporter of specialty coffees. The whole production process is done as a family, along with his wife Martha. Dividing the work between them helps assure a better future.

“Coffee is a challenge in my life. It is the course that my parents showed me and I want to follow it. I have learned the process from production, processing, marketing and now exporting.”

This winner of the Cup of Excellence has already planned how he is going to use what he earns from the sale of his coffee. “I’m planning to plant coffee. I’ll clear lots without burning so that I can achieve a high quality. This type of plantation is expensive. Also, drying. The altitude is a problem. I’d like to make covered drying racks so that the rain doesn’t touch my coffee. What I want is to maintain this quality for next year. Since it’s our only source of income, we should keep it up and be careful, so that we don’t lose quality.”
