Farm Histroy

The history of Fazenda Pedra Preta begins in the end of the 19th Century and beginning of the 20th Century, at the time of my great-grandparents on the one part and my grandparents on the other part, who implemented the first coffee plantation in the region, of the Yellow Bourbon variety. Since then, good quality coffees have been produced in the farm at altitudes from 1150 to 1250 meters. We have now reached the altitude of 1345 meters with mild climate and permanent preservation of the water sources and native forests.

Fourteen employees live at the farm. They are duly registered according to Brazilian employment and labor laws, and all the employment/labor and social rights are paid and are up to date. When required, more employees are hired, which happens frequently.

Coffee processing system

An employee is totally dedicated to take care of the coffee beans, which are turned over during the day and covered during the night for approximately ten days. When the beans reach 11.5% humidity, they are bagged and kept in brick and masonry bins.

Concern with quality

We found out about pulped natural coffees and the BSCA contest, which motivated us to prepare good quality coffees. Fazenda Pedra Preta has been classified for three consecutive years.
