Farm Histroy
Sítio Boa Sorte, located in Vila Pontões, is at an altitude
of 850 meters. The region is mountainous and has many waterfalls. Water
is supplied by a water source located in the property. The average temperature
in the region is 22ºC, 30ºC maximum and 12ºC minimum.
The Bissoli, of Italian descent, have colonized the south
of Espírito Santo at the end of the 1880's. Coffee growing tradition is
strong in the location, but the property started to have coffee as its main
product when it was acquired by Gelson Bissoli and his wife, Josane, 14
years ago.
Labor consists of 50/50 tenant farmers - who live in
the village and provide services to the property. The Bissoli family manages
the farm. Farm family management occurs frequently in other smaller properties
of the region.
Coffee processing system
Coffee is picked on sieves and cloth; the beans are pulped
on the same day they are picked. The drying process begins in the cement
and covered terrace, and later the beans are transferred to a drier. The
coffee drying structure is located in the property of Guarino Bissoli, at
a 4km distance from Sítio Boa Sorte. Special care, such as periodically
washing the terrace and turning over the coffee beans guarantee the quality
of the coffees.
Concern with quality
According to Gelson Bissoli, his participation in seminars,
symposia and talks contribute to the constant improvement of the coffee
techniques used in the farm to produce good quality coffees. In addition
to taking part in events, the farm is assisted in its high quality coffees
production by the Sales Producers Association of Nova do Imigrante [Associação
de Produtores de Venda Nova do Imigrante] (Certicafé/PRONOVA), in the person
of the technical director of the entity, Evair Vieira de Melo - who monitored
the work during coffee harvesting and processing, providing technical and
equipment guidelines for the farm to obtain the best coffees.
