| Overview The owner, Mr. Robson Vilela Martins,
graduated in dentistry and is specialized in orthodontics. He resides in
the city of Itabira, State of Minas Gerais, where he has his dental
office since 1990. A descendant of a traditional family of coffee
growers, since 1994, the year he inherited some land, he has been
acquiring the surrounding properties that belonged to the farm before it
was divided.
Coffee processing system
The beans are picked manually on a special type of
cloth. The fruit is pulped on the same day it is harvested, and the
beans are spread on a concrete patio in 2 to 3 cm layers for one day. At
the end of this period, drying is completed in a rotary drier, with
direct heat at a temperature of 40º C, for approximately 48 hours. The
beans in pergamino are stored in wooden bins.
Concern with quality
The producer receives technical supervision from the agronomists of
COCARIVE and of EMATER. Fazenda Sao Pedro supplies coffee to Illy Café
SPA, and is a member of COCARIVE – Cooperativa Regional dos
Cafeicultores do Vale do Rio Verde [Vale do Rio Verde Coffee Growers
Regional Cooperative].
He has ongoing projects to acquire a coffee pulper and to obtain
environmental certification, thus increasing the property’s
infrastructure that already has a 2,000 m2 concrete patio, coffee washer
of the Pinhalense brand, D’Andrea coffee processor, to add value to the
final quality to the Fazenda Sao Pedro coffees.
