Overview
Located in the Chapada Diamantina, in the city of Piatã – BA, the São Judas Tadeu Farm belongs to Mr. Antônio Rigno, who has been a coffee producer for more than 25 years. This region is very privileged and distinct; the temperature varies from 2 to 18°C (35 to 64°F) in the winter, showing very good conditions for coffee production of high quality. The owner tries to plant the coffee on a sustainable way, conducting the workers technically with the use of chemical pesticides and keeping the packages of these products for recycling, not to harm the environment. He also plants trees in the area around the farm and provides jobs for the local families.
Processing system of the coffee beans
The harvest is done by hand, and some women (called “panhadeiras de café”) perform most of the work. The coffee berries are harvested selectively, in plastic bowls, twice a day, and after, they are taken by tractors to the Pulped machine. The drying is done on patios. The coffee beans are spread in layers of about 4 cm and mixed many times a day. The dry coffee is separated into numbered lots, which follow to the storehouse in the conditions recommended for the coffee storage.
Concern on the quality
There is a great attention to become possible the production of coffee with quality on the São Judas Tadeu Farm, from the preparation of the soil, production and seedlings planting to the processing, and these activities are supervised by specialized technicians of AGRIPEC. The producer, Mr. Antônio Rigno, tries to invest always in a proper infrastructure, like Pulped machines, dryers and covered patios, so that the final result can be a coffee with the best quality.
