Farm Details
Lot#: 5 Antonio Rigno De Oliveira - Chacara São Judas Tadeu

Overview

Located in the Chapada Diamantina, in the municipality of Piatã, Bahia, Fazenda São Judas Tadeu belongs toAntônio Rigno, who has been a coffee producer for more than 25 years. This region is very privileged and distinct: temperatures range between 2 and 18°C (35 to 64°F) in the winter, making for very good conditions for the production of high-quality coffee.

The owner seeks to plant the coffee on a sustainable way, providing technical orientation for the workers in the use of agrochemicals and recycling the containers of these products to avoid impacting the environment. He also plants trees in the area around the farm and provides jobs for local families.

Coffee Processing System

Harvesting is done by hand, and some women (called “panhadeiras de café,” or “coffee pickers”) do most of the work. The coffee cherries are harvested selectively, in plastic bowls, twice a day, and afterwards they are taken by tractor to the pulper.

The drying is done on patios. The coffee beans are spread out in layers about 4 cm high and raked many times a day. The dry coffee is separated into numbered lots, which then go to the storehouse under conditions recommended for the storage of coffee.

Commitment to Quality

Great care is taken at Fazenda São Judas Tadeu to produce high-quality coffee, starting with preparation of the soil and propagating and planting of the seedlings all the way to the processing, and these activities are supervised by specialized technicians from AGRIPEC.

The owner, Antônio Rigno, is constantly endeavoring to invest in the right infrastructure, such as Pulpers, dryers and covered patios, so that the final result will be a coffee with the highest quality.
