Overview
Fazenda Gerais is located in the municipality of Piatã, Bahia , in a
region where the altitude reaches 1,320 meters. Fábio Soares dos Anjos was
born and raised there by his parents, who grew coffee on the land. At the
young age of 16, Fábio went to São Paulo. He worked at various jobs, but
he was always homesick for the countryside.
Not adapting to city life, he returned to the family homestead and his
native Bahia, where he soon started a new coffee farm. Not knowing very
much about the subject, the young coffee grower encountered numerous difficulties,
but with time and much persistence these challenges were overcome.
Learning effective agricultural techniques and constantly perfecting
his coffee-growing skills, Fábio today boasts a crop of more than 12,000
well-tended, highly productive plants that produce fruit of excellent quality.
Coffee Processing System
With the quality of the final product in mind from the outset, the coffee
grower begins the entire process by properly preparing the ground and then
analyzing the soil each year to make adjustments that will ensure the best
possible growing conditions for the plants.
Selective harvesting is practiced: only the ripe cherries are picked
and gathered in basins. The coffee is washed two or more times to prepare
it for the pulper. From the machine it goes to the patio, where it is spread
out and raked from time to time until it is dry.
The dried coffee is separated into numbered lots and then stored under
just the right conditions.
Commitment to Quality
Fábio Soares dos Anjos is committed to investing in his property because,
as he points out, it is from his land that his family gets its sustenance.
With quality production techniques, he will always have an excellent product
to offer. He continues to learn about new technology through courses, presentations,
travel, and other events sponsored by the Piatã Coffee Growers Association
(ASCAMP), to which he belongs. The Association is always on the lookout
for knowledge on the subject to share with its members, constantly promoting
the production of top-quality coffee.
