Overview
Montenegro farm came to Oscar as part of a legacy his
family left him. At the beginning, Montenegro was just a piece of land that
he turned into what it is today, a cup of excellence winner. He began planting
coffee in 1998 as a brand new coffee producer.
Oscar is a well diversified farmer, a real agricultural
entrepreneur, he owns a chicken and pig farm and some cattle, from which
he produces eggs, meat, cheese and cream. Oscar is a local leader, he is
president of Cooperativa Cafetapan which gathers nearly 20 members and produces
nearly 400 bags annually.
There are about 10 people working on the farm permanently.
The lot of COE winning coffee was picked and processed the same day in the
Coop's mill.
Oscar feels very proud for having won 5th place, he believes
his coffee is excellent because of three reasons: Altitude, good cultural
practices and careful harvest. One of his goals after winning is to reinvest
part of the premium into the farm, workers and community. He is currently
working on a social assistance project, consisting on building a health
clinic.
