Overview
Finca Las Victorias was acquired in 1986 by Sociedad de Operaciones Multiples
S.A de C.V. owned by José Alfonso Borja Lagos and Norma Borja de Lagos.
The Borja lineage has been recognized for being coffee growers for over
80 years. This farm is located in Cantón Suntecumat, Department of Ahuchapán
in the northwest side of the Apaneca-Ilamatepec Mountain Range.
For four years now, the farm has been managed by the company Jose Antonio
Salaverría y Co. (Jasal) and the agricultural manager in charge is Yohalmo
Diaz who supervises all cultural practices done at the farm throughout the
year: selective pruning, weed control, etc. Identified with the social responsibility,
the Borja helps out their community school.
The lot picked for COE this year is part of the Gourmet program from
Jasal, which means 100% ripe beans and 0% green beans. Depulped and processed
with clean water and sun dried in patios.
This farm has been participating in COE for 2 years being this one the
first year that the farm will go to the auction. With the premium prices
from the auction, they hope to be able to reinvest back a bigger share in
the farm and their community. The Borja family is thrilled that their farm
quality is recognized internationally, they feel it is due to the special
microclimate, diverse vegetation and abundant fresh pure water within the
farm.
