Finca Monte Sión, is surrounded by coffee plantations,
the farm owned by Liliana Herrera de Urrutia, is a vision she and her husband
call “love from above”.
When you speak to Mrs. Urrutia you can feel the love
for what she does, not only her love for great coffee but love for the people
that work in making what Monte Sión is today. This farm gives sustenance
to many families. Many years ago, even through crisis they believed in sharing
profits with their workers and since then they have shared 10% of their
earnings with the people involved, they want to make a differences in their
life, help them with medical services, and help them to have visions and
hopes for their families.
Since then they have in their communities’ eradicated
malnutrition and other diseases and they have helped create a sense of belonging
which translates into different work shops where they can learn an occupation
and they also have a bakery shop in the farm to help with income. Mrs. Urrutia
feels this is the only way, and now that she and her family have been blessed
with winning COE is recognition to their belief.
They are satisfied and content that they will be able
to show how much effort goes into this coffee. Winning it is all due to
the team work and the love from all these people. In the end they summed
their coffee success into these words: Quality, Biodiversity and Justice.
