Lot#: 13 José Arenivar Sibrian (San Carlos S.A.) - Monte Rey |
| | | | Overview
Out of a deep love of nature and motivated by a desire to live a simpler life in the country, Jose and Nancy Arenivar made the decision to buy Monte Rey nearly three years ago. The excellent location and the pleasing environment made the decision to buy the farm easy. Once the Arenivar family took control, both Nancy and José worked hard to rebuild the farm that had been previously abandoned as a result of the fall in coffee prices that came in the beginning of the decade.
Convinced that their coffee would be able to qualify itself among the best of the country, José and Nancy decided to participate in the Cup of Excellence in 2006, just one year after buying the farm. Monte Rey reached the international jury stage of the competition, confirming the quality of the coffee and motivating to participate this year. Winning at the Cup of Excellence has given meaning to their hard work and allows them to continue to work toward quality.
In selecting the sample Nancy and Jose considered altitude and variety; they chose a lot from a 7 hectare area inside the farm, planted only with Bourbon and located at an altitude of 1,400 meters above sea level. Workers only picked the cherries at the peak of their ripeness.
For the Arenivar family, quality comes not only from the variety and altitude, but from the fertilization and cultivation process and the hard work of the farm personnel who expertly supervise the harvest.
A future goal is to increase production and to continue to focus on quality in order to better position the product in international and national markets. To achieve this, the Arenivar family hopes to be able to establish a mill in order to be more able to supervise quality throughout the entire harvest and production process.
The Arenivar family believes that the market will appreciate the fine quality coffee of El Salvador and will reward it because it strives for quality and not quantity.
