2008 El Salvador Cup of Excellence® Winning Farms - Auction June 5, 2008
Lot#: 15 Fernando A. Lima (Lima y Socios) - La Campanula
La Campanula La Campanula La Campanula

Overview

La Campanula is owned by “Lima y Socios”, a family own business founded 30 years ago by several brothers of the Lima Mena Family, exclusively dedicated to growing high quality coffee beans. Continuing with the family’s coffee tradition since the 1700’s in different regions in El Salvador. This farm was devoted to coffee back in 1940, but has been in the Lima family for nearly three decades.

La Campanula, is located at an altitude of 5,500 feet above sea level in the rich volcanic soil of the Santa Ana Volcano, a high rainfall region and where most of the highest quality coffees are grown. Its name it’s derived from the Campanula Latin term meaning “little bell” and comes from a genus of flowers with that particular shape. This is the first time the Lima’s enter the competition with Campanula, but regularly this coffee has been exported to the beautiful nation of the rising sun.

It is an interesting fact that most coffee trees grown at an altitude above 5.500 feet are less productive; this is why Campanula is surrounded by many trees that reach the volcano top creating a friendly and favorable environment. This, together with the National Park next to the farm provides a natural refuge to plants and animals and creates a great environment for growing coffee. Campanula is also blessed with a gorgeous view overlooking the Coatepeque Lake.
