Overview
San Julian is a beautiful coffee farm located in Palencia, 40 km from Guatemala City, it’s a small in size coffee farm, but big in quality. They produce 250 bags per year, the objective was begun on a small scale to control quality.
Although, the owners are the fourth generation manufacturing wet mill and dry mill machinery brand Ruttimann, they have built and sold coffee processing machinery for the last 100 years, but they have only 10 years as coffee growers. They started a business selling high quality produced; roasted and packaged coffee in Guatemala City, a market they thought was not exploited. But, they could not find good coffee because most of it got exported.
The owners come from a family of Swiss Mechanical Engineers who migrated to Guatemala after World War I, and established Taller Ruttimann in 1908, one of the first machine shops to ever assist coffee growers' wet mills needs in Guatemala. Our knowledge is being invested on the continuous improvement of our wet mill, and we are doing our best to transcend our European values directly into the coffee bean.
Today, 70% of the coffee produce in San Julian is roasted, packaged and sold in Guatemala City as Hogos Coffee, 20% is sold as green coffee to “high end” local roasters and 10% is exported to U.S.A., roasted and packaged under our brand and/or private labels. They also run a coffee shop, opened five years ago, located close to the Congress building in Guatemala City. Every now and then you can spot a couple of congressmen lobbying while they drink our coffee.
Our vision: honesty to the coffee tree, honesty to the workers, and honesty to the country.
