| History The name of the farm comes from the
fact that it is located between three small villages called "Las
Marías".The farm is connected to a well maintained road system, has
rooms for the people that harvest the coffee and has it own power
generator in order to assure that any activity will not be interrupted
due to electricity problems.
Mr. Enamorado is a pioneer of the coffee in Honduras, he began
planting coffee when he was 16 years old in the farm that inherited from
his father. With dedication he was improving his yield year after year,
getting knowledge from technical magazines. In those times there were
not roads so he transported his coffee in mules. Due to his well known
coffee farmer reputation the honduran coffee office sent him abroad to
lear about new technologies for coffee. When he came back applied what
he learned and improved considerably his yield, therefore more people
were hired and also learned from the new techniques Mr. Enamorado
brought to Honduras. Nowadays these people that used to work in the farm
of Mr. Enamorado have their own farm and are fruit of the knowledge Mr
enamorado transmitted to all of them.
in 1957 he was among those who found the first coffee cooperative of
Honduras and 10 years later he was the president of this organization.
Under his mandate many coffee growers joined the cooperative and
exported more than 2,265 Tons of Coffee. He also built one of the first
road system to connect many coffee farms. During his life Mr. Enamorado
has been involved in many activities for the benefit of this community,
for instance building of schools, churches, roads, electricity networks,
hospitals etc.
Mr. Enamorado has always been a canal of technology transfer to many
coffee farmers of his region. Several coffee institutions have performed
scientific essays in his land to validate technologies. He had been
awarded with many prizes from universities and government institutions
and nowadays Mr. Enamorado is one of the best coffee farmers of
Honduras.
Quality Practices
The coffee is processed under traditional methods
using his own miller, it is dry using mesh grilled and plastic
infrastructure and a cement platform located in the farm.
Environmental Care
To protect the environment Mr Enamorado has built
some ponds to treat the waste water. The pulp is treated with earthworm
to produce organic fertilizer. Besides one quarter of the farm is
entirely dedicated to forest in which a great diversity of species can
be found. Chemical pesticides are not used.
Fertilization
Fertilization is done with bio-fertilizer coming from
treating the Coffee pulp with the Californian earthworm ( Eisenia
foetida). Twice at year supplements of Nitrogen, Phosphorus and
Potassium are applied.
Disease and Pest Control
For pest control cultural practices and biological
components are used. No chemical pesticides are applied.
Harvesting
Handpicking of ripe grains of Coffee begins in January and finish in
April. This task is performed by skillful men and woman.
Pulping and Fermentation
Mr. Enamorado has a well suited infrastructure, an ecological wet
mill in which he can process more than 16,000 bags of 69 kg. There are
fermentation tanks an a pulping machine. In the classification canals he
separates the high and medium quality coffee.
