Overview

My name is Mauricio Esteban Vilchez Urbina, I am 30 years old anda m a native of Ocotal Nueva Segovia. My farm is located in the mountains of Mozonte, Nueva Segovia, an area know as one of the best areas for grown coffee for its natural characteristic and height above sea level.

Five years ago, with motivation by my uncle Vicente Vilchez, who now rests in peace, I began to work with coffee. My uncle convinced both my brother and I to purchase land in the mountains of Mozonte since it is known as one of the best areas to grow coffee in Nicaragua. Even though it was tough for me to believe my uncle, I purchased a small piece of land in order to give coffee a try.

It is the first time I participate in the Cup of Excellence event and to be able to obtain the fourth place is of a great importance to me. It is very important to me to have won because it demonstrates that I grow coffee of excellent quality and it gives me hope to be able to sell it at a great price so I may be able to expand on the coffee area on my farm.

The height above sea level, the abundant shade in the coffee plantations, the application of organic compost and the close supervision of the wet milling are a few of the factor that influence on the characteristics of the excellence of my coffee.

I have always believed and dreamt with coffee, it is my passion. Although, my father dedicated his life to growing coffee he instilled in me that work ethic that allows me to dedicate the time and effort to produce the quality of coffee that we do.

The coffee of my farm is current sold into the coffee markets of Europe, United States and Germany. I now hope to be able to sell my coffee at a much higher price through the Cup of Excellence coffee auction.
