Overview
My name is Pastora Peralta Sequeira, I was born,
raised and actually live in Ocotal, Nueva Segovia, I am 46 years old
mother of 3 children. Besides being a full time mother, I am also a
coffee producer with the support of my children, which is very important
me since they are the future of the farm.
15 years of hardship and dedication to growing coffee
began with a job as a cook at a big coffee plantation. At this job I
began to feel the love and enthusiasm for the land and an certain that
the satisfaction to harvest it runs deep in my blood.
My property which is located in Dipilto, Nueva
Segovia, counts on the privileged conditions like the altitude and
vegetation, add to that the good care and maintenance that we give the
coffee in the wet mill, results in a quality product that has won the
Cup of Excellence this year.
In order to maintain the property and coffee as well
as we do. Because of the low coffee prices that do not allow me to
survive solely through this cultivar, I must also dedicate part of my
time to commerce. I even had to apply for a loan to now make
improvements on the property, now that I am a winner of the Cup of
Excellence the first time I that participate. I am analyzing the
possibility of foregoing my loan since I have great hopes of the price
that my coffee will obtain in the auction.
As a woman, to be a winner of the Cup of Excellence
means a great deal for me, because in spite of being a single mother my
children have seen the great efforts and sacrifices that I have made and
the results that I have obtained. This will inspire them to work hard
and honestly in life and they will know that their hard work will be
rewarded. The premium that we will obtain in the auction will also give
a monetary value to all the effort made like mother and producer of
coffee. I hope that the coffee is sold at a very good price in order to
continue improving our projects and to continue harvesting quality.
I was motivated and excited to see in all the media
coverage last year so many neighbors and friends win and sell their
coffee through the Cup of Excellence. I then challenged myself to be a
winner and thanks to God and our good friend Mr. Luis Alberto Balladares
of the dry mill Las Segovias, the opportunity to participate and win was
given. I am now living like a Super Star (from Sabado Gigante) for
having won because all my neighbors are coming to visit my farm to learn
from me. |
