Teresita Pastora de Chávez

Her gray hair reveals the experience that has been applied to her farm San Jorge, which she acquired when she was only 20 years old. Today with 17 manzanas (29.5 acres) she produces 150 quintales (100 pounds is a quintal) of green coffee.

Her husband Enrique Chávez is in charge of the administration of this property, which yet does not have electricity. “This has been a great difficulty during 9 year. Even though I gave a quota of two thousand dollars, the cables are half a kilometer (0.30 miles) away from the property and 35 thousand cordobas are needed to buy all the necessary inputs to bring the electricity to the farm.... and to tell you the truth we do not have that amount of money” says Don Enrique.

On the other hand, Doña Teresita is satisfied because besides the productive part that obviously brings well-being to the family, she has taken care to make the farm San Jorge a sanctuary for her relatives and friends “Look how beautiful is the garden!.. here we celebrate all the family events of the Chavez like birthday and graduation parties of my grandchildren. Is like a paradise as you may see”.

Indeed, the place has a swimming pool (filled with treated waters from the lake Apanas), a cabin, picnic tables and paths covered with wild flowers, something hardly found in a coffee farm. In this occasion to celebrate the “cup of excellence”, the family Chavez is preparing a delicious country bbq.
