“Bella Aurora” Estate, Dipilto
Joaquín A. Lovo López
The height of the mountains of the northern part of
Nicaragua offers an unique view, specially everyday during down and
sunset. This is one of the reasons why Don Joaquín Lovo named his farm
“Bella Aurora” (beauty daybreak). The farm is located in Dipilto (Nueva
Segovia). Thanks to the rise of the coffee prices, he has been able to
improve the facilities of the farm, building a coffee mill with bigger
capacity, a storage for food and agricultural inputs, the “casona” (farm
house) and access roads.
“I feel very proud because I will be able to inherit
my son a great farm…” says Don Joaquín. He has taught his son Luis
Joaquín every detail of the farm. Now-a-days Luis Joaquín administers
“Bella Aurora” and according to his words he is very happy doing this.
“We have a Mandador (farm manager) that has been with
us for 40 years. Thanks to his help, we can say that we have one of the
most organized farms of this region.”
“We take care of the water sources. We use
responsibly the water springs. The “sweet waters” (waters after the wet
process) are treated en three basins until they are completely filtered.
The pulp removed and fermented from the coffee is used as natural
manure” ... he also shows us an adequate use of dry coffee branches,
which they use as wood for cooking. We were also able to see the
preparation of huge amounts of food for the farm workers.
Don Joaquín Lovo fits his hat and ends saying:
“Brother... we cannot continue destroying the farms because they are
ours... later on Mother Nature will charge us with drought and lack of
fruits what we have taken from her. My son Luis and I can say that we
may be small producers but with a big consciousness”
