“El Bosque” Estate, Ocotal
Julio Peralta
We find Julio Peralta in his house with his three
small children, enjoying the peace of his home. He is going to tell us
about his farm El Bosque.
“My property is relatively new. It all started in
1992, the mountains were virgin and there we grew 5 manzanas (8.7 acres)
of coffee. But we had a problem. During the 80s these lands were
scenario of the war and some parts were completely mined...” Julio
remembers.
“We asked for help to the Nicaraguan army and little
by little we cleaned the lands from mines. And now we can see the
beautiful coffee plantations, which are of great quality” he continues
saying.
“To grow coffee is a family tradition. It comes from
the beginning of the XX century. My father Don Róger Peralta gave us
this tradition. He is the cornerstone of the current organization of my
brother’s farm “Santa María de Lourdes and El Bosque which is named like
this because of its beautiful views and surroundings. Its natural
conditions are so favorable and offer a product of great quality”. (Both
farms have certifications of the “cup of excellence”)
We also protect the fauna and flora. Furthermore with
the “ecological kitchen” we optimize all the wastes such as the coffee
parchment and pulp which is compacted and use as fuel for the stoves.
This practice allows to eliminate the use of wood and to preserve the
natural surroundings of the farm “El Bosque”.
Currently the owner of this farm lives in Managua,
the capital of Nicaragua and together with his wife he also is in the
shoe business.
Due to the coffee crisis in the beginnings of year
2000 they had too look for alternative sources of income. Currently he
manages all his business operations from the capital (Managua) and
together with his wife manage a shoe importer.
