“La Esperanza” Estate, Mozonte
Esperanza del Carmen Tercero Moncada
You may say that Doña Esperanza is the typical
Nicaraguan woman: very hard worker and dedicated to her children. As an
authentic northern woman, she has the virtue to produce in the mountains
of Mozonte, the unique aromatic coffee, which is participating in the
“Excellence coffee cup” contest.
Together with her husband they have shown their
commitment with the environment and the natural surroundings, by placing
signs near their lands, indicating that the hunting of wild animals is
prohibited as well as the felling of pine trees, a much desired timber
by the merchants of this item.
“You should see …. We are always keeping an eye on
those bandits that take advantage of this region that is kind of
deserted….but thanks to the army of Nicaragua and to the workers of the
farm…. Things are changing” states with optimism.
This northern peasant family manages La Esperanza and
the neighboring farm Villa Fontana. They hope that due to the great
quality of their coffee, they will get better prices in the coffee
auction. They also plan to cultivate more parcels (she tells us while
being next to her husband Daniel). This is the best heritage that we may
give to our children and to Nicaragua. In this way they will provide to
this region of Nueva Segovia, which is blessed by the climate, with
bigger coffee plantations.
