Mario Cerna Barquero

At two hours drive from Matagalpa, the road indicates that we are heading to the highest spot of the province. Buenos Aires is the farm belonging to Mario Cerna, who is talking to us very enthusiastically.

“This is one of my 9 properties. The management of so many farms makes me to be very careful with the administrative decisions, since there are 4 thousand jobs that I have to direct… but my secret lies within my Overseers, who are in charge of the good management of each farm.

Don Mario is very thankful to the many opportunities that coffee has given him. Since his youth his father handed to him the management and administration of some of their properties. While he tells us this, he shows us the packing of his coffee “Republic Coffee”.

“I am doing the same thing with my son, Mario Jr. He works very close with the workers. When I am not around, he is in charge of giving orientations and he guarantees the payment of all the workers in the different provinces of the country where I have properties.”

Mario Cerna is one of the most successful coffee producers of Nicaragua. The level of coffee export from his farms makes him one the more important entrepreneurs of this product.

He continues saying: “The cup of excellence is just one of the quality requirements; we are also involved in programs regarding the socialization of wellness and the protection of the environment – Starbuck”

He ends by saying: “As coffee producers our main demand is directed towards the government… we request the repairing of roads, opening of penetration roads and development plans for the rural areas. Our part as producers is to create new jobs and to improve the benefits to our workers”.
