Farm: "El Rancho" - Dalia, Matagalpa
The farm belonged originally to my grandparents who devoted
their entire life to the cultivation of coffee, there has been three generations;
grandparents, my mother and then myself. The process is traditional, the
farm is cleaned from April to May; the crop begins in November and ends
in mid march. Pests are controlled with chemical solutions and organic chemicals
are used when it is really the last option. Shade for the coffee trees is
provided by Guabas and búcaro.
I try to control any pests and if persistant and as a
last resort I use the least amount of chemicals and cut into its proper
status (red) and is washed with clean water. To preserve the environment
I do not allow the existence of non-organic material (glass, plastic, etc.),
I do not allow the dirty water back into the river and prohibit any animal
hunting activity in the farm.
