Lot#: 4 Olga Marina González Cuadra - La Picona |
| | | | Overview I have been the owner of this farm since 1999, when I bough it from Mr. Santana Hernandez. My farms of 25.90 acres (15 manzanas) and when I bought it, it had not been cultivated, so I decide to produce coffee and plantains (guineos). At the begginnig the coffee was sold to local buyers. The producing area is 17.25 acres (10 manzanas), six of them are producing and the other 4 manzanas will produce in 2010. The remaining property is a Protected Area (mountains) and can not be damaged o cultivated. Upon 2005 we participated in the Cup of Excellence Program and won the first place (2005) and 17th place in 2006 and now we are so happy to have obtained the 4th place in 2009! Our coffee variety is Maracaturra and also have other plants and trees in our farm, such as jocote, orange, avocado, plantain, guineo (banana/plantain) and lemon. Our family has been involved in the production process. My husband and I, and our children help me as the mother in the households, so they make us a very strong family. Our son (16) and our daughter (14) are learning about the different processes of coffee production so they will be our support in the coming years. We believe that is a blessing the environment, the altittude, good fertilizing practices (organic and coffee pulp combined with some chemical formulas), the good picking coffee practices at the right moment, avoiding over fermentation, the soil quality and the great efforts the workers do to obtain the best fruit are the secret to obtain highq qualitiy coffee, but above of all, God’s blessing and help. I feel so very happy, really I did not think we’d win on of the first places of the contest. I did think we’d be in the finalists, but not in the first 5th places, no this high scores. I feel very satisfied for these results of our hard efforts and will do our best to win the 1st place in 2010! | |
