Overview
Santa Maria de Lourdes farm was a farm located between Dipilto and Jalapa which was in abandonment due to the war. In 1992 I bought it in order to reactivate it and produce specialty coffees following on the family tradition. The cultivation of coffee has been in my family since my great grandfather Mr. Ignacio Mantilla Calderon in 1890 in a farm called La Fraternidad in Pueblo Nuevo with José Peralta Lobo in the farm called La Argentina in Dipilto, these properties have been passed down to the younger generation.
Coffee is picked in the month of January, for which I hire extra help. Due to a forest like atmosphere about 20% is constantly under natural shade. I preserve my mountains its vegetation, it is prohibited to haunt any type of animal and pesticides have been abolished entirely, plagues are treated organically.
